Diana Montague

Diana Montague (born April 8, 1953 in Winchester ) is a British opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

She studied singing at the Manchester Royal School of Music. In 1977 she began her professional career with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera. In 1981 she was engaged at the English National Opera London and from 1982 at the Covent Garden Opera London. She sang at the Bayreuth Festival (1983), the Edinburgh Festival (1985), the Glyndebourne Festival (1989) and the Salzburg Festival (1998 and 1990). In 1987 she first appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In addition, she was u. a. at the opera houses of Frankfurt a. M., San Francisco, at the Vienna State Opera , at the Teatro la Fenice Venice, at the Opéra Bastille Paris, at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires and at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

Her repertoire includes roles such as Sesto in La clemenza di Tito and Idamante in Idomeneo by Mozart , Orpheus in Orfeo ed Euridice and the title role in Iphigénie en Tauride by Gluck , the composer in Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss and Nicklausse in Les Contes d ' Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach .

She recorded various rare bel canto operas by Donizetti and Meyerbeer for the record label Opera Rara .

She is married to the baritone David Rendall (* 1948).
