Ruth Ziesak (born February 9, 1963 in Hofheim am Taunus ) is a German opera and lied singer ( soprano ).

Life

Ruth Ziesak studied in Frankfurt am Main with Elsa Cavelti and started her career in 1988 at the Stadttheater Heidelberg and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg. Ziesak achieved several successes in singing competitions - including first prizes at the German Music Competition and the s'Hertogenbosch Competition .

Her path led through the stages of Munich , Stuttgart , Berlin and Dresden to Milan , Florence, Vienna , Paris , London and New York , where she impressed in the lyric field. Her favorite roles include Pamina ( Die Zauberflöte ) , Ännchen ( Der Freischütz ) , Marzelline ( Fidelio ) , Ilia ( Idomeneo ) and Sophie ( Der Rosenkavalier ) . Ziesak made her debut as Countess in Le nozze di Figaro at the Glyndebourne Festival and in Zurich , as Donna Anna ( Don Giovanni ) in concert at the Herrenchiemseefestival .

The artist is also a sought-after concert singer and often takes on solo parts in masses and oratorios - such as Bach's Johannes Passion , Beethoven's Missa solemnis , Brahms' German Requiem , Handel's Messiah , Mendelssohn's Elias and Lobgesang or Schmidt's Book with Seven Seals . Ziesak has appeared on concert stages in Paris, Milan, Vienna, Munich, Leipzig, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and London and has performed with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra , the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden , the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the WDR Symphony Orchestra , the Konzerthausorchester Berlin , the Czech Philharmonie , the Montreal Symphony Orchestra , the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra . She also often sings in baroque music concerts at the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin , the Concerto Köln or the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra . Ruth Ziesak has sung under the direction of well-known conductors - such as Herbert Blomstedt , Ivor Bolton , Riccardo Chailly , Christoph von Dohnanyi , Manfred Honeck , Daniele Gatti , Riccardo Muti , Kent Nagano , Christoph Prégardien , Sir Georg Solti and Lothar Zagrosek .

Ziesak was a guest at the Salzburg Festival , the Lucerne Festival , the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the BBC Proms . There are numerous sound recordings, including opera arias by Mozart, songs by Mahler and Liszt, and canzonets by Haydn.

As a lieder singer, she works with the pianists Gerold Huber and András Schiff , with whom she has performed in Vienna, Berlin, Essen, Leipzig and London, as well as at the Kissinger Sommer and Heidelberger Frühling . She also sang with the Merel Quartet, the Vienna Piano Trio and the Wanderer Trio.

Ziesak lives in Heidelberg and teaches singing at the Saar University of Music .
