history
Balquhain Castle was built in the 14th century and has been held by the Leslie family since 1340. On July 5, 1441, John Leslie of Balquhain signed a contract with the bricklayers David Hardgat, David Dun, Robert Masoun and Gilbert Masoun, who should finish the construction.
In 1526 the castle was sacked during a feud with the Forbes family . It was rebuilt in 1530. Mary I , Queen of Scotland, stayed at Balquhain Castle in 1562 during the Battle of Corrichie . In 1746 it was burned down by the troops of William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland , and then abandoned.
