Christoph Prégardien

Christoph Prégardien (born January 18, 1956 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German opera singer ( lyric tenor ).

Life

Christoph Prégardien grew up as the third child of the Cologne merchant Günther Prégardien and his wife Christina, née. Hübinger, in Limburg. There he passed the Abitur examination at the Tilemann School in 1974 . His great-grandmother Paula, b. Neuman, was a granddaughter of the Aachen entrepreneur Friedrich August Neuman .

He worked with the Limburger Domsingknaben at an early age. This was followed by singing studies in Frankfurt am Main with Martin Gründler , in Stuttgart and Milan , especially lied singing with Hartmut Höll .

In 1983 he had his first engagement at the Frankfurt Opera , which he received on a recommendation from Michael Gielen . From 1986 to 1988 he sang as the first lyric tenor at the opera house in Gelsenkirchen and began to work with conductors and accompanists Michael Gees and Andreas Staier . Prégardien released a number of successful CD recordings with them, especially with Schubert songs. The main focus of his work is song and oratorio , and his repertoire covers all epochs.

From 2000 to 2005 he led a singing class at the Zurich University of Music and Theater , since autumn 2004 he has been a professor at the Cologne University of Music and author of the basic technical work Schott Master Class Singing at Schott Verlag , which he also uses for teaching purposes. Ulrich Cordes and Michael Dahmen are among his students . His son Julian Prégardien is also a lyric tenor.
