Life

Ulrich Cordes first studied church music at the Cologne University of Music with Winfried Bönig and Margaretha Hürholz and graduated in 2003 with the A-exam. Then he studied singing. In the summer semester of 2005, a Socrates scholarship enabled him to study with Pierre Mervant at the Conservatoire de Paris in Paris. From the winter semester of 2005 he studied with Christoph Prégardien . In 2008 he obtained his diploma, in 2010 he graduated with the concert exam. He attended master classes with Claudia Visca. Since 2008 he has had private singing lessons from Konrad Jarnot . In 2008 he won a second prize at the Podium Young Singing Soloists competition organized by the Association of German Concert Choirs (VDKC).

Cordes performed with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging and the Munich Bach Choir , among others . On October 10th, 2004 he sang the tenor part in Beethoven's Mass in C major in Bonn Minster as part of the Beethoven Festival . In 2007 he sang the role of Apollon in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo in a concert at the Rheingau Music Festival . Daniel Honsack wrote in the Wiesbadener Tagblatt : "As an evangelist, Ulrich Cordes achieved top musical performances with clear formulations and an occasionally somewhat metallic, quite appropriate sharpness. The tenor from Christoph Prégardien's Cologne singer forge dealt with the part in a very haunting and exciting way." . In a performance of Handel's Saul with the Munich Bach Choir, conducted by Hansjörg Albrecht with Konrad Jarnot in the title role, he took on several roles. He was the soloist in Voices of Exile , Richard Blackford's cantata for soloists, chamber orchestra, band and choir, which was performed by the chamber choirs CONSONO and CONSTANT under the direction of Harald Jers at the music festival "Klangvocal" in Dortmund . In 2010 he appeared at the Stuttgart State Opera in the German premiere of Elena Kats-Chernin's opera The Rage of Life . His operatic roles include Mozart's Don Ottavio and Belmonte . With the Munich Bach Choir he was a soloist in a program based on Mozart's Requiem , which also included compositions by Enjott Schneider , performed in the Philharmonie am Gasteig . He was the evangelist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion in the Berlin Philharmonic on March 28, 2010. In 2011 he performed in the Cologne Philharmonic in Handel's Israel in Egypt with the choir of the Cologne Bach Society . He sang in Bach's B minor mass , performed in the Johanneskirche in Düsseldorf and the Trinitatiskirche in Cologne, to celebrate 10 years of the CONSONO chamber choir. He sang Handel's Messiah in St. Martin, Idstein, with Katia Plaschka, Andreas Scholl and Markus Flaig .
