Katia Plaschka

Katia Plaschka is a German opera singer ( soprano ). She uses her coloratura soprano mainly in oratorio and in contemporary opera.

Life

Katia Plaschka studied singing at the Frankfurt University of Music with Gunnel Tasch – Ohlsson until 2002 . She also studied with Heidrun Kordes . In the field of historical performance practice , she worked with Thomas Hengelbrock and Frieder Bernius , among others . She is involved in the catchy tune project, an educational music project for elementary school children.

Opera

In 2001 she was the "high soprano" in music by Luigi Nono in a concert performance as part of the series Zeitfluss at the Salzburg Festival of his work Io, Frammento da Prometeo , excerpts from his Prometeo for three soprano voices, small choir, bass flute, double bass clarinet and live Electronics (1981) in the Kollegienkirche, Salzburg . The performance was recorded and published in 2004. The recording received the German Record Critics' Prize in 2004 in the choral works category.

Katia Plaschka works with the Wiener Taschenoper , which specializes in experimental contemporary opera. In 2003 she took part in the world premiere of Wolfgang Mitterer's opera massacre , which was staged as part of the Wiener Festwochen by Joachim Schlömer and conducted by Peter Rundel . In 2004 she was the singer in Mitterer's dance piece Labyrinth for soprano and electronics in the Semperdepot in Vienna, choreographed by Saskia Hölbling for her group DANS.KIAS.

Concerts

Katia Plaschka mainly works as a soloist in oratorio performances. With the Marburg Bach Choir she sang Haydn's Stabat Mater (2004), Handel's Messiah (2005) and Bach's Johannes Passion . In 2003 she performed Handel's Gloria in the Union Church, Idstein , which was only ascribed to the composer in 2001, and with the St. Martin Choir and the Martinis Chamber Choir his Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate . In St. Martin, Idstein , she sang Bach's Christmas Oratorio (2004), Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri (2007) and Mozart's Great Mass in C minor (2008). In 2009 she sang in Bach's St. Matthew Passion with Ulrich Cordes as evangelist , Andreas Pruys ( Vox Christi ) and Klaus Mertens , and in 2011 she was the soprano in Handel's Messiah with Andreas Scholl , Ulrich Cordes and Markus Flaig .

In 2005 she performed Monteverdi's Marienvesper with the Frankfurter Kantorei . In 2007 she sang Poulenc's Gloria and John Rutter's Magnificat in the Rheingau Cathedral in Geisenheim with the Neue Rheingauer Kantorei . In 2009 she performed parts I – III of Bach's Christmas Oratorio in the Speyer Cathedral , conducted by the cathedral conductor Markus Melchiori .

Balthasar Neumann Choir

Katia Plaschka is a member of Thomas Hengelbrock's Balthasar Neumann Choir . Among other things, she performed in Bach cantatas at the Dortmund Konzerthaus and in Mozart's Idomeneo at the Barbican Center .
