Joachim Schlömer

Joachim Schlömer (* 1962 in Monheim am Rhein ) is a German dancer , choreographer and director .

Career

Schlömer initially studied architecture , but then went to the Folkwang University in Essen and trained as a dancer and choreographer.

He received his first engagement at the Opéra de la Monnaie in Brussels with the Mark Morris Dance Group . He then founded his own ensemble, the Compagnie Josch, with which he also performed successfully in London , Antwerp and Lisbon . Further stations were the dance theaters in various cities. In 1991 he became the ballet director in Ulm , 1994 director of the dance theater at the Nationaltheater Weimar , 1996 director of the dance theater at the Theater Basel .

He has also choreographed for well-known dance companies such as Mikhail Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project.

Joachim Schlömer is strongly looking for synergetic effects. He also works as an opera and drama director. He has been working as a freelance director since 2001; B. for the Salzburg Festival , the Vienna Burgtheater , the Stuttgart State Opera , the Basel Theater, the Hanover State Opera , the Mannheim National Theater , the Schwetzingen SWR Festival , the Styrian Autumn Festival and the Vienna Festival Weeks .

Joachim Schlömer founded Fischhouse , a performance group in San Francisco with David Finn , and Dogs with Graham Smith in Lisbon , a two-man company that went on tour in Europe.

Until August 2006 he held a visiting professorship at the University of Giessen in the Faculty of Applied Theater Studies and frequently gives lectures on his work at universities and congresses.

From the 2006/2007 season onwards, Schlömer has been in charge of cooperation projects between the Freiburg and Heidelberg city theaters , which aim to bring together the independent dance scene and institutionalized theater.

In September 2009 Joachim Schlömer took over the artistic direction of the Festspielhaus St. Pölten , which he left at the end of the 2013 season.
