Ciro Scarponi

Ciro Scarponi (born 1950 in Torgiano , † October 4, 2006 in Perugia ) was an Italian clarinetist and composer .

Scarponi attended the Morlacchi Conservatory in Perugia , where he later taught. He has performed with the Orchestra Nazionale della Rai , the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana and the Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano at the Scala di Milano and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and has participated as a soloist at international festivals. He worked under conductors such as Claudio Abbado , Gabriele Ferro , Lawrence Foster , Fabio Maestri , Farhad Mechkat , Marcello Panni and David Shallon and worked for many years with Giuseppe Sinopoli and the Filarmonica Romana .

More than two hundred works have been dedicated to Scarponi, including by composers such as Sylvano Bussotti , Franco Donatoni , Armando Gentilucci , Ennio Morricone , Luigi Nono , Wolfgang Rihm and Salvatore Sciarrino . He was partner of Luigi Nono in the Freiburg experimental studio of the Heinrich Strobel Foundation and, in addition to radio recordings, made records for labels such as Ayna, Edipan, Ricordi, Fonit Cetra, SMC, RZ Berlin, Dongiovanni, Nuova Era and Col legno.

In the last years of his life, Scarponi concentrated on composition. In 2003 he was awarded first prize at the International Symphonic Music Competition in Sanremo for Elegis for Denny for clarinet and orchestra.
