Simon Keenlyside

Sir Simon Keenlyside , CBE (* 3. August 1959 in London ) is an English opera singer of the vocal range baritone .

Life

As a child he attended St. John's College School in Cambridge . After completing a degree in zoology at the University of Cambridge , he made a vocal training at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester .

Keenlyside regularly receives invitations to Zurich , Barcelona , Madrid , the Bavarian State Opera , Tokyo , the Metropolitan Opera , the Salzburg Festival , Scala , Ferrara , the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Paris Opera .

He made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1999 as Marcello ( La Bohème ) and subsequently sang at this house - sometimes in premieres - Figaro ( Il barbiere di Siviglia ), Posa ( Don Carlo ), Conte d'Almaviva ( Le nozze di Figaro ), Giorgio Germont in La traviata , the title roles in Wozzeck , Billy Budd , Eugen Onegin , Macbeth , Don Giovanni , Rigoletto and Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute .
