David Chesky

David Chesky (born October 29, 1956 in Miami Beach ) is an American jazz and Latin pianist , arranger , composer and producer .

David Chesky played the piano at the age of five and later took lessons from Sanford Gold and John Lewis ; he also studied composition with David Del Tredici . In 1977 he appeared with his own big band in New York's Storyville Jazz Club and in the same year at the New Jazz Festival in New York. In 1979 the album Rush Hour was created for Columbia , in which Michael Brecker also participated.

In 1989 he founded the jazz and Latin record label Chesky Records with his brother Norman , for which he recorded albums a. a. Produced by Badi Assad , Luiz Bonfá , Tom Harrell , Fred Hersch , Sara K. , Babatunde Olatunji , Oregon , Rebecca Pidgeon , Bucky Pizzarelli , Paquito D'Rivera , Clark Terry , McCoy Tyner and Phil Woods . Chesky himself worked as a musician on Ana Caram's Chesky albums . As a duo with Romero Lubambo , he recorded two albums with chorinhos and tangos in the early 1990s ; also in 1995 an album with his own compositions ( Fantasies for Solo Piano ). His Concerto For Bassoon And Orchestra - played by the Symphony Orchestra Of Norrlands Opera under the direction of Rossen Gergov - was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 (category: Best Classical Contemporary Composition ).
