Doyle Bramhall (* 17th February 1949 in Dallas , Texas ; † 12. November 2011 in Alpine , Texas) was an American blues rock - guitarist , singer and - drummer .

Life

Doyle Bramhall grew up in Dallas, where he joined a blues band called The Nightcaps . His early influences include Ray Charles , Jimmy Reed and Bobby "Blue" Bland . In high school he then joined the Chessmen, where he met Jimmie Vaughan . Bramhall also played in Vaughan's next band Storm, where he met Vaughan's little brother Stevie Ray Vaughan , with whom he in turn founded the Nightcrawlers. During this time, SRV and Bramhall co-wrote Dirty Pool , a song that can be heard on Stevie Ray Vaughan's debut album, Texas Flood . Bramhall also wrote songs for many of the other Vaughan's albums. There are also three Bramhall songs on the Vaughan Brothers album Family Style . Bramhall also plays drums on the album.

In the early 1980s Bramhall was the drummer for Marcia Ball and Mason Ruffner and now began making solo recordings for the first time. His solo debut Bird Nest on the Ground was not due to hit the market until 1994. Bramhall's son Doyle Bramhall II of the Arc Angels also plays on the album . Before Bramhall's second album Fitchburg Street was released in 2003 , he worked with Jennifer Warnes .
