Jane Henschel

Jane Henschel (born March 2, 1952 in Los Angeles ) is an American opera singer ( alto ).

Life

Jane Henschel began studying singing at the University of Southern California at the age of 16 . After performing as a concert singer in America, she came to Germany in 1978, where she was initially engaged at the Stadttheater Aachen. In 1981 she moved to the Wuppertal Opera House, and in 1983 to the Dortmund Opera. From 1987 she was also regularly heard in Düsseldorf-Duisburg ( Deutsche Oper am Rhein ). From 1988 she began to appear internationally, for example in Bordeaux, Zurich, Geneva, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Milan, Vienna and at the Salzburg Festival . In Germany she could also be heard in Berlin, Munich and Stuttgart.

Henschel has sung both dramatic alto and mezzo parts with great success. She made a name for herself internationally as a wet nurse in The Woman Without a Shadow by Richard Strauss . In addition, she sang roles like Erda in Rheingold , Fricka in Die Walküre , Waltraute in Götterdämmerung , Ortrud in Lohengrin , Brangäne in Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner , Herodias in Salome and Klytämnestra in Elektra by Richard Strauss, Azucena in Il trovatore , Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera , Amneris in Aida by Giuseppe Verdi , Türkenbaba in The Rake's Progress by Igor Stravinski and Kabanicha in Katja Kabanowa by Leoš Janáček .
