Isabel Bayrakdarian (* 1974 in Zahlé , Lebanon ) is an Armenian - Canadian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Born in Lebanon, she came to Canada as a teenager. In 1997 she graduated from the University of Toronto a Bachelor in Engineering Science .

Bayrakdarian had started singing early. In 2000, at the beginning of her career, she won the Operalia competition sponsored by Plácido Domingo . She has since performed at the Metropolitan Opera , the Royal Opera House Covent Garden , the Scala , the Opéra National de Paris , the Chicago Lyric Opera , the Salzburg Festival , the Semperoper , the Bavarian State Opera, the San Francisco Opera , the Santa Fe Opera and the Canadian Opera Company .

Her repertoire includes Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice , Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare , Susanna in Figaro's Wedding , Zerlina in Don Giovanni , Pamina in the Magic Flute , Marzelline in Fidelio , Adina in L'elisir d'amore , Norina in Don Pasquale , Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande , Blanche in Dialogues des carmélites and others.

In 2002 she contributed the song Evenstar, performed on Sindarin, to the soundtrack of the film Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers .

Isabel Bayrakdarian has been married to the Armenian-Canadian pianist and composer Serouj Kradjian since 2004.
