Jim Dale
Jim Dale , MBE , actually James Smith , (born August 15, 1935 in Rothwell , Northamptonshire , England ) is a British actor , singer and comedian .
Life
Dale began a career as a stand-up comedian after serving in the Army . Among other things, he had engagements as a warm-upper at a variety show. On the side he worked as a pop singer and lyricist, his producer was George Martin , later producer of The Beatles . In 1963 Gerald Thomas gave him a supporting role in the carry-on film Is Yes Crazy - These Tired Taxi Drivers (Carry on Cabby) . It was intended as a one-off role, but although it was only a minor supporting role, it was so well received by the audience that he was hired for the next carry-on film and was henceforth an integral part of the carry-on troupe. In 1966 he had his only musical hit, Georgy Girl , which had sold millions of copies , music by Tom Springfield, sung by The Seekers . In 1992 he played the leading role in the first carry-on film in 14 years, Carry on Columbus (German title: Mach's nochmal Columbus ). But the attempt to reissue the carry-on series failed. In the late 1970s, he was also seen in several Disney films, including as Dr. Terminus in the fantasy musical Elliot, the smile monster (Pete's Dragon) .
Today Jim Dale speaks, among other things, the US version of the Harry Potter audiobooks and the narrator in the series Pushing Daisies . Since May 2006 he has played the role of Mr. Peachum in the Broadway play Threepenny Opera at Studio 54 .
From his first marriage (1957–1977) Dale has four children, his son Adam is a cameraman. He has been married for a second time since 1980.

In 2003 he was appointed by the Queen as a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
