The formerly independent municipality of Oberbaldingen is now a district of the city of Bad Dürrheim in the Schwarzwald-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).

Geographical location

Oberbaldingen is located at the eastern end of the Baar plateau between the southern Black Forest and the Swabian Alb .

history

Like all Ostbaar districts, Oberbaldingen was founded during the Alemannic era. Oberbaldingen is first mentioned in a document in a donation to the St. Gallen Monastery on October 21, 769. Up until the 14th century, Oberbaldingen formed a community together with Unterbaldingen . In 1302 the first documents appeared showing the division of the village into an upper and a lower Baldingen. In 1321 Unterbaldingen came to the Fürstenberg family and remained Catholic after the Reformation. The evangelical church of Oberbaldingen stands out among the sights, which was consecrated to the patron saint St. Martin in the pre-Reformation period. The village even once housed a castle. Preserved foundations suggest this.

On September 1, 1971, Oberbaldingen was incorporated into Bad Dürrheim.
