Unterbaldingen is a district of the city of Bad Dürrheim in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg in the Schwarzwald-Baar district . The next larger cities are Geisingen about 6.5 km south, Donaueschingen about 10 km west and Bad Dürrheim about 11 km north.

Geographical location
Unterbaldingen is located at the eastern end of the Baar plateau , also called Ostbaar, between the southern Black Forest and the Swabian Alb at almost 700 m above sea level. NN . To the west of the village , the Kötach flows from north to south. Further to the west, Unterbaldingen has extensive agricultural areas , which are mainly used for arable farming. The Niederwiesensee is also located there . In the southwest, Unterbaldingen has a share of the Unterhölzer Forest . A hunting lodge belonging to the Prince of Fürstenberg is located in the sub-Baldingen district . The Herdweidhöfe , which are Aussiedlerhöfe, are located at the edge of the forest . The Ziegelhof is located near the banks of the Kötach . In the south of the district is the water treatment plant Kötachtal and their associated Klärsee . In the east the Baldinger Berg rises , which at the Blathalde has its highest elevation at 915 meters in the Unterbaldinger district.

history
The area between Baldingen and Pfohren has been populated since the younger Stone Age (around 4000 BC ), as evidenced by some finds from the area. The word Baldingen is composed of the Alemannic name for groups of people ( -ingen ) and the name of an Alemannic head (Baldo) who has settled there. Baldingen was first mentioned in writing in a document from the St. Gallen Monastery from 769 as Villa Baldinga . Another document from the year 854 also mentions a chapel owned by St. Gallen, which is one of the earliest known places of worship on the Baar . From the 12th century, the town was under the rule of from Geisingen coming of Vartenberk . Count Heinrich von Fürstenberg was enfeoffed by Rudolf I von Habsburg with the Baar landscape in 1283 , which became a landgraviate . The first documentary mention of the separation of the place into an upper and lower Baldingen can be dated to 1302. The lower Baldingen came in 1321 as a home for Baldingen Furstenberg after the sex of Wartenberger was extinct. When Duke Ulrich von Württemberg carried out the Reformation in his country in 1534 , Oberbaldingen , which had been in Württemberg since 1376, became Protestant , whereas Unterbaldingen remained Catholic . In 1806, Unterbaldingen was assigned to the Grand Duchy of Baden , but sovereignty remained with the Count or Prince of Fürstenberg. On April 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Unterbaldingen had to join the Bad Dürrheim municipality , although Unterbaldingen is much closer to the city of Geisingen.

The honorary mayor of Unterbaldingen is the teacher Jürgen Schwarz (CDU) in 2019. Both had agreed to do this after the local elections in 2014 because both political groups had the same number of votes in the local council. Schacherer was elected mayor for the first time in 2004 with a majority of the local council. He was confirmed in office after the 2014 local elections.
Municipal council
Unterbaldingen sends two of its citizens to the currently 28-strong Bad Dürrheim municipal council . In addition to the mayor Gottfried Schacherer, who joined the Free Voters parliamentary group, there are also Jürgen Schwarz, who belongs to the CDU parliamentary group. In the last municipal council elections , the two were so successful that they would have won their mandate even if they hadn't voted for a false part of the town.

Alemannic is spoken in Unterbaldingen . The majority of the Roman Catholic population can celebrate Holy Mass in the St. Gallus Church in Unterbaldingen . The Protestant are the parish Oberbaldingen affiliated.
Attractions
The baroque St. Gallus Church is particularly worth seeing , the Gothic church tower of which was built as a defensive tower in the 12th century with its stepped gables characteristic of the Baar . The nave joins it to the west and was completed in 1732 .
The 400-year-old Baldinga-Hof with its striking stepped gables is also worth seeing. It was previously used as the Fronhof of the former Friedenweiler monastery .
Other places of interest in the village are the rectory , the town hall and the old school building , which together with the church form the center of Unterbaldingen.
The nearby over 500 hectare nature reserve of the Unterhölzer Forest offers its visitors special attractions. The forest was once the zoo of Prince zu Fürstenberg , in which Prince Joseph Wenzel had a hunting lodge built in the Unterbaldingen district in 1780 . The oak and beech population that is up to 360 years old is a particular rarity in the forest .
In addition, the ascent to the Blatthaldenhütte , which is over 200 meters above the village, on the highest point of the Baldinger Berg, is worthwhile . From there you not only get an overview of Ober- and Unterbaldingen, but also of the nearby Donaueschingen and the Baar, up to the Feldberg , which is more than 50 km away .
Club life
Unterbaldingen is characterized by a lively club life. There are several clubs , including the fishing club, the music club , the fool's guild , the choral society , the rural women and the volunteer fire brigade .
The old schoolhouse , which was also used as the town hall in the past, has been restored by the local associations and now offers them a common residence. The rural women, the music and choral society, as well as the fools' guild and the youth have each been given a room.
From July 5 to 7, 2019, the clubs from Unterbaldingen and Oberbaldingen will celebrate the village anniversary of the 1250 years of Unterbaldingen and Oberbaldingen on the local border.
