Warm upper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A warm-upper (from English: warming up for warming up) is in the relevant German TV jargon a comedian who brings the studio audience into an exuberant mood before the start of a TV production or live broadcast, to a certain extent "warms up".

In programs in which the audience plays an active role, such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? it is an important success factor.

The clerk is responsible for ensuring that the studio audience gives the “right” applause in the “right” places during the broadcast .
