T-Pain (* the 30th September 1985 in Tallahassee , Florida ; bourgeois Faheem Najm ) is an American rapper , R & B - singer and music producer . The T in "T-Pain" stands for Tallahassee, Florida, his hometown. T-Pain is also known under various pseudonyms such as Teddy Pain or Teddy Verseti. Characteristic of T-Pain are his top hats , his curious glasses and the auto-tune effect in his songs, which became very popular through him, so that today it also singers like Lady Gaga or Chris Brown use.

Career

T-Pain was a member of the rap combo Nappy Headz , which consisted of five members. However, he became famous for the adaptation of Akon's song Locked Up , the title of which was a regional radio hit. Akon found out about the song and signed T-Pain with his label "Konvict Music". In 2002 he founded his own label "Nappy Boy Entertainment".

His first single I'm Sprung hit the US charts in August 2005. The first album Rappa Ternt Sanga followed in November 2005. The second single I'm n Luv (Wit a Stripper) was released in January 2006 and rose to number 5 on the US Billboard charts . On the album he worked with Mike Jones , Youngbloodz , Styles P and Trick Daddy , among others .

At the beginning of 2007 his album Epiphany was released . The single from Buy U a Drank featuring Yung Joc was number one on the Billboard charts for a week during the summer. He was also represented on the Billboard charts with the rapper Plies with Shawty that summer . His fame rose in particular in late 2007 when he received worldwide attention for features with Kanye West ( Good Life ), Baby Bash ( Cyclone ), Flo Rida ( Low ), and Chris Brown ( Kiss Kiss ).

In 2008, T-Pain received the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song as a songwriter together with Aldrin Davis and Kanye West for the song Good Life , which is performed by Kanye West. On August 23, 2008, T-Pain's second mixtape Pr33 Ringz came out. He also raps almost exclusively in this mixtape. On November 11th 2008 his third album Thr33 Ringz was released in the USA. The album features songs with Ludacris , Busta Rhymes , Chris Brown , Lil Wayne and DJ Khaled . The first single Can't Believe It was released in July 2008. He was also a guest musician on the single The Boss from the Rick Ross album Trilla .

In March 2010, the cartoon Freaknik: The Musical was broadcast on the Cartoon Network . In the hour-long music film, T-Pain played the lead role of Freaknik and contributed five songs to the soundtrack. Numerous other hip-hop musicians such as Lil Wayne , Snoop Dogg , Rick Ross and Kelis are also involved.

In December 2011, T-Pain's fourth album Revolver came out. It receives guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Detail, Chuckie , Pitbull , Lily Allen , Wiz Khalifa , Chris Brown, One Chance, Ne-Yo , R. Kelly , Bei Maejor and E-40 .

His fifth album Oblivion was released on November 17, 2017.

In February 2019, T-Pain won the first season of the US version of The Masked Singer as a Monster and served as a guest judge in the tenth episode of the second season and the sixth episode of the third season.
