Tank (singer)
Tank (born January 1, 1976 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ), real name Durrell Babbs , is an American R&B singer and songwriter.
Career
Durrell Babbs is from Milwaukee on Lake Michigan , but grew up near the capital Washington, DC . In his youth he sang in the church choir, which was led by a cousin. He first found his way into the music business as a background singer for Ginuwine and also as a songwriter. In 2000 he was involved in the album Chicago '85 ... The Movie by former Blackstreet member Dave Hollister , which was a million seller.
Immediately afterwards he got his own record deal with Blackground Records and released his debut album Force of Nature just a year later under the nickname Tank (Panzer), which he got because of his appearance . It earned him a gold record of its own and reached number 1 on the R&B charts and number 7 on the official charts . The song Maybe I Deserve came in at number 38 in the single charts . With the second album One Man he was not quite as successful in 2002, but still reached high chart positions.
In the following years, however, he focused on songwriting and wrote songs for a variety of successful R&B musicians such as Aaliyah , Brian McKnight , Omarion , Charlie Wilson , Jamie Foxx , Tyrese , Monica , Joe and Kelly Rowland .
Tanks' third album Sex, Love & Pain followed in 2007 . This was the second time he reached number 1 on the R&B albums and number 2 in the official charts. The song Please Don't Go was his second hit on the Hot 100 singles chart and his first number one hit on the AC charts. At the 2008 Grammy Awards , the song and album earned him two nominations for an award in the R&B category. Two other nominations followed in 2010 and 2011 as co-author of Pleasure Ps Under and as co-interpreter alongside Chris Brown on the song Take My Time .
In 2009 the singer switched to Atlantic Records , but his first album there, Now or Never , had been his worst-placed to date, but still stayed in the charts for a long time. This was followed in 2012 with This Is How I Feel, the third R&B number one album and with the song Next Breath he reached the top of the AC charts again. The following year Tank teamed up with Ginuwine and Tyrese and the three of them came as TGT with the album Three Kings, also at number 1 on the R&B and at number 3 on the official charts.
The solo albums Stronger and Sex, Love & Pain II followed in 2014 and 2016, both of which again topped the R&B charts. In the Billboard 200 he missed the top 10 both times and he had no further hit in the R&B single charts.
