Mannie Fresh
Mannie Fresh (born March 20, 1969 in New Orleans , Louisiana ; real name Byron O. Thomas ) is an American record producer and rapper. He became known as the house producer of the Cash Money Records label and as part of the Big Tymers duo . His productions have sold over 23 million copies so far.
Career
Mannie Fresh grew up in New Orleans, the son of a DJ . Accordingly, music shaped his life very early and he started his career in 1984 as part of New York Incorporated , which is often named as the first hip-hop group in New Orleans. He first gained notoriety for himself through parties where he played records. This aroused the interest of the rapper Gregory D , with whom he soon teamed up and finally released the album The Real Deal with him in 1992 , which was released on RCA Records . This was popular in New Orleans, but went completely unnoticed outside of the southern United States. This also led to the end of the partnership with RCA and also meant the end of the joint musical careers of Gregory D and Mannie Fresh, who parted ways because Mannie Fresh was dissatisfied with the treatment by major labels .
Through a mutual friend, Mannie Fresh met Birdman , who offered him the opportunity to become part of his newly founded label Cash Money Records . As a producer, he contributed significantly to the boom of the label in the mid-1990s, together with Birdman himself and the rappers Juvenile , Lil Wayne and BG .
With Birdman, he also founded the duo Big Tymers in 1998 , which received several gold and platinum awards from the RIAA and landed several hits on the Billboard Hot 100 .
In 2004 he finally released his first solo album, The Mind of Mannie Fresh , which placed 47th on the Billboard 200 and contained the single Real Big , which stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks.
