The Shiny Toy Guns are an American rock band from Los Angeles , California .
history
The band was formed by Jeremy Dawson and Gregori Chad Petree in 2002. Dawson and Petree have known each other since childhood in Shawnee , Oklahoma , and have previously worked on music projects such as Cloud2Ground and Slyder. Carah Faye Charnow (vocals) and Mikey Martin (drums) joined the band in 2004.
The band quickly made a name for themselves in California, as well as in the music community Myspace . In early 2005 they released their debut album We Are Pilots (v1) on an independent label . During their summer tour through the USA, several interested labels were found, so they recorded the album again and We Are Pilots (v2) released in November 2005 with a revised tracklist. These also contain a cover version of the song Stripped by Depeche Mode , for which the band also shot a music video. The song was also released on the album Goth Electro Tribute to Depeche Mode . The tour continued and in June 2006 they signed a contract with Universal, where they released their album We Are Pilots (v3) on October 17, 2006, which made it to number 90 in the US album charts . This was followed by a tour of the USA.
The title You Are the One , which has its origins in Jeremy Dawson's trance title Neo , was used in the video games Grand Theft Auto III and FIFA 07 .
On October 29, 2007, the band performed under the pseudonym The Shinys in the children's television series Yo Gabba Gabba! on. On 6 December 2007 won We Are Pilots nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Electronic / Dance Album .
In August 2008 it was announced that lead singer Carah Faye Charnow would be replaced by Sisely Treasure. The second album Season of Poison was recorded with Treasure . The album was released on September 2, 2008 and entered the US album charts at number 47. As singles, Ricochet! and Ghost Town released in the US. In spring 2009 the Shiny Toy Guns recorded a cover version of Major Tom (Coming Home) , with which Peter Schilling had also been successful in the USA in 1984. The song was used in car advertising for the Lincoln MKS and was also released as a single. It was also included on the remix album Girls Le Disko , released in late 2009, and after the Lincoln commercial was reintroduced during the Grammy broadcast in late January 2009, the band entered the Hot 100 for the first time with that track - Single charts.
In February 2011 the band announced that there was a reunion with Carah Faye Charnow. Faye Charnow replaced Sisely Treasure and the band was back to their original line-up. The first single from the album III , which was released in October 2012, was the song The Sun , which has been offered for free download on their homepage since February 2011. Since then, two more songs, Waiting Alone and Fading Listening , have been removed from the album.
