Shawnee is an American city in the state of Oklahoma . It is in the administrative area of Pottawatomie County .
In 2000 the place had about 28,700 inhabitants. The city has two universities. St. Gregory's University goes back to St. Gregory's Abbey, founded by French Benedictines in 1875; Oklahoma Baptist University was founded in 1906.
Shawnee has a sister city in Japan with Nikaho .
