Anika Noni Rose
Anika Noni Rose (born September 6, 1972 in Bloomfield , Connecticut ) is an American actress and singer .
Life
The African American who originally wanted to be a veterinarian came into contact with singing and acting in high school . Anika Noni Rose later attended Florida A&M University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in theater studies . After studying acting at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco , she went to New York to start a serious career as an actress. In 1998 she made her Broadway debut with the supporting role of Rusty in the musical Footloose , which was followed by other appearances in off-Broadway productions. She experienced her breakthrough in 2004 with the part of Emmie Thibodeaux in the Broadway play Caroline, Or Change , which is between musical and drama , for which she won the renowned Tony Award for best supporting actress in a musical , the Theater World Award and the Drama Desk Award .
In parallel to her work at the theater, Anika Noni Rose also appeared in film and television in the late 1990s. In 2003 she was in the American Idol vehicle Justin & Kelly: Beach Party of Love , in which she acted alongside competition finalists Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini . In 2006, she occupied Bill Condon in his several times for the Oscar -nominated Broadway adaptation Dreamgirls , which made them known to a wider US and German public. Based on the career of Diana Ross and the Supremes , the film reports on the rise of an Afro-American singing trio in the early 1960s, which Rose embodied together with the singers Beyoncé Knowles and Jennifer Hudson , who are hardly tried in the cinema .
