Assassination Nation is an American film by director and screenwriter Sam Levinson from 2018. It was released in Germany on November 15, 2018.
action
In the small town of Salem, the social profiles of half of the city's residents are hacked within a week and the intimate preferences of the individual residents are published. Starting with the mayor, who takes his own life during a meeting, affairs, frauds and other secrets come to the public.
After Lily is harassed by her friend Mark and his friends at school and a supposed witch's mark is found on her back, this is spread via social media, which gradually creates a mob.
After sunset, Lily and her three friends Sarah, Em and Bex are in Em's house and receive threatening calls, which is why they call the police. In the meantime, part of the mob enters the house and tries to kill the four girls. Em's mother dies in an exchange of fire, Em and Sarah are arrested by the sheriff, Lily is able to flee to a neighbor while a small part of the mob tries to hang Bex on a lamppost.
The violence in the city escalates into a modern witch hunt at night.
The supposed neighbor who let Lily into the house turns out to be one of those who want to hunt down and kill the girls. After Lily kills her tormentor in self-defense, she finds an arsenal in the house with which she armed herself in order to free Em and Sarah from the patrol car.
The three then make their way to Bex to free her from her executioners. In the subsequent exchange of fire, all but one of the men are killed.
After they let go of another hacker who tried to attach the hacking attacks to Lily, the four girls go heavily armed to the mob, where more and more girls join the four on the way.
The events of the rest of the night are not shown in the film, only at the end of the film it is shown that Lily's younger brother is interrogated by the FBI and admits that he was the one who hacked the profiles on the social networks and then published them.
During the credits, a marching band goes through the ruined streets, past burned-out cars and other destruction.

It premiered on January 21, 2018 at the Sundance Film Festival . The film was released in cinemas in Canada and the United States on September 21, 2018. The cinema release in Germany was on November 15, 2018.
Awards
The film was nominated for Best Film at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya in 2018 and for the Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival .
