Hari Nef

Hari Nef (born October 21, 1992 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American model , actress, and freelance editor who lives in Los Angeles . Nef made her catwalk debut at New York Fashion Week 2014. She is employed by the fashion houses Hood By Air and Eckhaus Latta . In 2016, she gained international fame as the first trans woman to appear on the cover of a major British magazine.

Life

Nef was born in Philadelphia to an advertising agency executive and housewife in Pennsylvania , USA . When she was two years old, her parents divorced, so she moved with her mother to Newton , Massachusetts , and grew up there.

After graduating from high school, Nef enrolled at Columbia University in 2011 , which she graduated with a degree in theater studies in 2015 as a member of the relevant course. Shortly after starting her modeling career, Nef underwent a gender reassignment program .

Career

Nef works as a freelance journalist, articles written by her have appeared in Vice and the cultural magazine BlackBook , and she also had a regular sex column in the erotic publication Adult .

In 2014, Nef was featured for the first time on a cover in Fresh Magazine . In the same year she placed the British fashion magazine Dazed on the 68th place of the Dazed 100 of the 100 people redefining style and youth culture, and Nef was also briefly on the first place of the Dazed Readers 100 in the readers' choice. Furthermore, photos of her appeared in the picture series of two autumn editions of Vice .

Also in 2014, Nef walked the catwalk for the first time in March at New York Fashion Week for Adam Selman , VFiles , Vejas , Degen and Eckhaus Latta. In May, she was signed to IMG Models as the first transgender person. In the same year she made her professional acting debut as a recurring supporting character Gittel in the second season of the Prime Video production Transparent . Previously, she was already in August in the music video There is Nothing Left the band The Drums have appeared. After all, she was on a list again in November: The Forward elected her to the list of the 50 most influential Americans of the Jewish faith.

In September 2016 the British editorial team of Elle published special covers for collectors' issues of their magazine. One of these covers also featured Nef. This makes her the first trans woman whose photo was featured on the cover of a major UK commercial magazine.

In January 2017, Nef starred alongside Blake Lively , Lara Stone and her Chinese colleague Xiao Wen Ju in a commercial for L'Oréal , which was positively received for its diversity and which was first seen on television during a break from the 2017 Golden Globe Awards . The following year, Nef played one of the main roles in the production Assassination Nation and the supporting character Blythe in the first season of the Netflix series You - You Will Love Me .
