Toronto International Film Festival 2018
The Toronto International Film Festival took place September 6-16, 2018
The 43rd Toronto International Film Festival took place from September 6 to 16, 2018 and opened with a performance of the historical drama Outlaw King by David Mackenzie . Films were shown for ten days at the film festival, including many world premieres. Such as the biographical drama Secret of a Life by Trevor Nunn , the drama If Beale Street Could Talk by Barry Jenkins based on a novel by James Baldwin , the drama Beautiful Boy by Felix Van Groeningen , the drama Ben is Back by Peter Hedges and the tragic comedy Land the habit of Nicole Holofcener . Steve McQueen also presented his thriller Widows - Deadly Widows . With The Death and Life of John F. Donovan , Xavier Dolan presented his first English-language film.
The science fiction film High Life by Claire Denis, shot in Germany, and the Austrian-Luxembourg historical film Angelo by Markus Schleinzer about the African Angelo Soliman who was deported to Vienna also premiered . Other international films that celebrated their world premieres at TIFF are the Australian thriller Hotel Mumbai by Anthony Maras , the French drama Maya by Mia Hansen-Løve , the British drama The Wedding Guest by Michael Winterbottom and the Irish tragicomedy Papi Chulo by John Butler. The films shown in the Gala Presentations and many of the films in the Special Presentations were announced at the end of July 2018.
In June 2018, the TIFF organizers announced a program to ensure that at least 20 percent of all film critics and journalists who have received press accreditation for the festival are members of under-represented groups such as women and people of color.
The jury for the Platform Prize Stream consisted of the directors Lee Chang-dong , Béla Tarr and Margarethe von Trotta . The People's Choice Award, the main prize of the film festival, went to Green Book - A Special Friendship by Peter Farrelly .
