Simon Jaquemet (* 1978 near Basel ) is a Swiss film director , screenwriter and cameraman . He received international attention in particular with his debut film Chrieg , which won the Max Ophüls Prize in 2015 and received five nominations for the Swiss Film Prize.

Life

Simon Jaquemet grew up on a farm near Basel . His father is an agronomist and later worked in the social sector for a long time, while his mother taught small classes. After finishing school, he completed the preliminary design course with a focus on film at the Zurich University of the Arts  (ZHdK) in 2000 . He then attended the film course at the ZHdK. In 2005 Jaquemet graduated with the short film Die Burg . Since then he has worked as a freelance film director and author. His work mainly comprised music videos , commercials and other short films , including Block  (2007) and Laura's Party  (2010).

The music videos, u. a. with the Bündner hip-hoppers Breitbild , the pop chansoner Adrian Stern or the indie rock band My Heart belongs to Cecilia Winter , have received several national awards, including the most broadcast video of the year and the Swiss advertising film award EDI . The short films have been invited to numerous international film festivals . At the International Fantasy Film Festival in Neuchâtel , his films Homeland  (2003) and Bugga  (2004) were each nominated for Best Swiss Short Film. As a cameraman he worked for video artists such as Elodie Pong, Knowbotic Research and David Lamelas . His first feature film Chrieg premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2014 and won the Max Ophüls Prize 2015 , among others . His second feature film The Innocent was nominated for the Swiss Film Prize. Lead actress Judith Hofmann won the Swiss Film Prize for her role as Ruth in the Best Female Actress category.

Simon Jaquemet lives in Zurich and works there in his own studio, which he shares with colleagues from the film collective 8horses .
