Wash Westmoreland , actually Paul Andrew Westmoreland (born March 4, 1966 in Leeds , England ), is an American film producer , director and screenwriter .

Life

Westmoreland was born in Leeds in 1966. After finishing school, Westmoreland studied Politics and East Asian Science at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Fukuoka University in Japan and graduated in 1990.

Westmoreland then emigrated to the United States in 1992. Westmoreland initially lived in New York City, then moved to New Orleans and then moved to Los Angeles , where he worked in the film industry. Westmoreland first worked for the film director Bruce LaBruce as a camera assistant in the film Hustler White . In the years that followed, Westmoreland made pornographic films and wrote the scripts for them, such as Naked Highway , Toolbox and Dr Jerkoff and Mr Hard . The porn film Naked Highway received the Adult Erotic Gay Video Award in 1997 and the AVN Award in 1988 . In 1999 Westmoreland directed Animus for All World Video, starring Blake Harper and Thomas Lloyd .

In 2001 Westmoreland shot the independent film The Fluffer with his partner and future husband Richard Glatzer (1952-2015) . In the same year Westmoreland made the film The Devil is a Bottom , which received a 2001 GayVN Award for Best Sex Comedy . Other porn films such as Seven Deadly Sins Gluttony for All Worlds Video and The Hole for Jet Set Productions followed. These two films received multiple GayVN awards .

Again with Richard Glatzer, Westmoreland directed and produced the film The 15th Birthday , also known as Echo Park LA ( Quinceañera ) in 2006 , and was seen in a short appearance in the film Velvet Goldmine by Todd Haynes . In the 2000s, Westmoreland started a VH1 show Totally Gay about the development of gay culture from 1993 to 2003. Westmoreland also made a documentary Gay Republicans about the organization Log Cabin Republicans .

The last work he did together with his partner Richard Glatzer, who had ALS , was the film The Last of Robin Hood about the last days in Errol Flynn's life in 2013 and Still Alice - My Life Without Yesterday , for which the leading actress Julianne Moore received an Oscar .

In late June 2020, Wash Westmoreland became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .

Westmoreland's brother Michael John "Micko" Westmoreland (* 1969) is a musician and occasionally composes film scores.

Wash Westmoreland lives in California .
