Peter Hedges

Peter Hedges (born July 6, 1962 in Des Moines , Iowa ) is an American writer and screenwriter .

Hedges grew up in West Des Moines , Iowa where he graduated from Valley High School . He later studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts . His film career as a screenwriter began with the adaptation of his novel What's Eating Gilbert Grape for the film Gilbert Grape - Somewhere in Iowa . In 2003 his screenplay for the film About a Boy or: The Day of the Dead Duck was nominated for an Oscar.

His son Lucas Hedges works as an actor in the film business.
