Karyn Kusama

Karyn K. Kusama (born March 21, 1968 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American film director and screenwriter .

Life

After Kusama, who was born in Brooklyn and raised in St. Louis, left the film school of New York University in 1992 with her thesis Sleeping Beauties , she took boxing lessons. She came up with the idea of ​​generating a story about boxing. The script for her first feature film, Girlfight, was created , which she filmed in 2000. Her debut film won several awards and in 2000 brought her the Grand Jury Prize and the Director's Prize at the Sundance Film Festival . Kusama was also recognized as a young talent at the festivals in Cannes and Deauville. After the moderate success of Æon Flux (2005), her third film, Jennifer's Body , which was released in cinemas in 2009, was much more successful.
