Asghar Farhadi

Asghar Farhadi ( Persian اصغر فرهادی; * May 7, 1972 in Khomeinishahr , Isfahan Province ) is an Iranian screenwriter and director . His films have so far won two Oscar awards in the category of best foreign language film .
Life
As a teenager, Farhadi made his first own films on 8 mm and 16 mm film . In 1998 he graduated from Tehran University . He worked as a writer and director at the student theater and wrote plays for radio and staged television programs. His debut work Raghs dar ghobar won the Film Critics Award and the Best Actor Award at the Moscow International Film Festival . Farhadi's second film, Shahr-e ziba , won the 2004 Warsaw Film Festival (Best Film), the International Film Festival of India and the Moscow Faces of Love Film Festival. Further awards at international film festivals followed.
In 2009 he received the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for best director in the film Alles über Elly . In 2011 he won the Golden Bear for Nader and Simin - A Separation, as well as numerous other awards, including the Oscar and the Golden Globe Award for the best foreign language film.
In 2012 he was appointed to the jury of the competition at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival . A year later he received his first invitation to compete at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival for the family drama Le passé - The Past, which was filmed in French in Paris . Another invitation followed three years later for The Salesman , for which Farhadi received the award for best screenplay. At the 2017 Academy Awards , Farhadi received his second Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for The Salesman . In protest against Donald Trump's decree 13769 , the filmmaker did not attend the Academy Awards .
In 2018, the Spanish-language psychological thriller Open Secret (international title: Everybody Knows ) opened at the 71st Cannes Film Festival for which Farhadi was responsible for the direction and script .
