The brothers Peter John Farrelly (born December 17, 1956 in Phoenixville , Pennsylvania , United States ) and Robert Leo "Bobby" Farrelly Jr. (born June 17, 1958 in Cumberland , Rhode Island , United States) are American screenwriters and film producers and film directors , Peter is also a novelist .

Life

In 1980 the brothers started writing screenplays. In 1990 they sold two episodes for the television series Seinfeld . Almost four years later, the breakthrough came with the comedy Dumm und Dumber in 1994, which grossed 200 million dollars worldwide and made the actor Jim Carrey famous. In 2013, Peter Farrelly directed Movie 43 for the first time without his brother. The film was successful with critics and audiences and won the Oscar for Best Picture , and Farrelly also won the Oscar for Best Screenplay .
