Fever Pitch ( Fever Pitch ) is an American film comedy from Peter and Bobby Farrelly from the year 2005 . The story is based on Nick Hornby's novel Fever Pitch . In 1997 the film Ball Fever was released on this basis .

action

The action begins in 1980. Ben Wrightman is raised by his uncle Carl, who is a fan of the Boston Red Sox baseball team . When Uncle Carl dies, Ben regards the crew as his surrogate family. The uncle bequeathed him two very valuable season tickets right behind the dugout , the team bench , the Red Sox.

Ben Wrightman, 30 years old in 2003, is a teacher and continues to be a fan of the Boston Red Sox. He meets the businesswoman Lindsey Meeks during a class trip. His students then tell him that the woman is “hot” and that he should make an appointment with her. He tries to do so, but Lindsey initially refuses a date. She later agrees when her friends Robin and Sarah persuade her to do so.

After a great time for two, the Red Sox season begins. For this reason - Ben has been going to Florida with his friends to the "unimportant" preparation games for years - he cancels a first meeting with Lindsey's parents. You see completely crazy and over-the-top fans on TV - including Ben, of course, and the father reacts with negative comments about the "fans". In the following time it becomes clear that Ben only lives for sport. The delivery of the inherited season tickets becomes a celebration; Tickets for a game against arch-rivals New York Yankees are only available for those who dance the most beautifully.

Known as a workaholic, Lindsey does not share Ben's passion for baseball, so the relationship between the two is repeatedly put to the test. She knows nothing about the curse of Bambino and can not pronounce the name of the Red Sox legend Yastrzemski correctly. She also takes a laptop to the stadium to continue working from there, which Ben doesn't like. In this game, Lindsay is hit by a foul ball and then does not go to the games. The height of the crisis comes when Ben cancels the first game in over eleven years to go to a party with Lindsay. He describes the evening as "the most beautiful of his life" until he receives a call telling him about the "greatest game of the Red Sox". After an incredible race to catch up, the Red Sox were able to beat arch-rivals New York Yankees , they had made up a 7-point deficit in the last round . A world collapses for Ben, and he curses the evening, which was great until recently, which leads to the separation of the two.

When Ben realizes that there is life off the field even for the Red Sox players, he decides to sell his season tickets to Robin's husband Chris in order to win back Lindsey. When Lindsay learns about the upcoming sale of the two season tickets, she runs across the field to Ben in a spectacular action during a match to stop him. This game is game 4 of the AL - Championsship series of the Red Sox against the Yankees; after this, the Red Sox won the series after 0: 3 victories behind with 4: 3. A happy ending in two ways: Meeks and Wrightman are happy together and the Red Sox win the World Series , the MLB championship . For the Red Sox, winning the title in 2004 was the first championship title in 86 years.

Reviews

James Berardinelli described the film on ReelViews as a "curious mixture" of cleverness and "lard". Jimmy Fallon's slapstick interludes, which are kept to a minimum, criticized Berardinelli as “uncomfortable”, otherwise the actor is “palatable”. The characters of the friends of the main characters are not sufficiently developed, the critic found the end of the film to be hasty.

The lexicon of international films said: "Comedy carried out by convincing actors, subtly developed based on a bestseller by Nick Hornby, which tries to portray fundamentally different perspectives on the network of relationships between men and women."

Awards

The film was nominated for a Teen Choice Award in seven categories in 2005 , including Jimmy Fallon, Drew Barrymore, and Best Picture . Drew Barrymore was nominated for the IFTA Award in 2005.

background

The film was shot in Boston , St. Louis , Toronto and Niagara Falls, Ontario . Its production amounted to an estimated 39.7 million US dollars . The film grossed approximately $ 42.1 million in US cinemas.

The song Tessie the Dropkick Murphys is played twice in the film , which is closely related to the championship won by the Red Sox in 2004.
