The 2004 World Series was the 100th edition of the Major League Baseball finals . The series started on October 23, 2004 and ended on October 27, 2004. It faced the champion of the American League , the Boston Red Sox , and the champion of the National League , the St. Louis Cardinals . The Boston Red Sox won the "Best of Seven" series with a sweep that was unusual for a World Series . The Red Sox won four games in a row and clearly beat the Cardinals 4-0.

It was the Red Sox's first title in 86 years. Back in 1918, the Red Sox had won against the Chicago Cubs .

For MVP of the World Series was Manny Ramirez selected.
