The 1905 World Series was the second edition of the modern World Series , the finals of Major League Baseball . These were played from October 9 to October 14 at the end of the 1905 MLB season between the American League winners , the New York Giants , and the National League winners , the Philadelphia Athletics . The New York Giants, who won the series with 4-1 victories, won the World Series, which was held for the first time in the best-of-seven mode.

A total of nine players who participated in the 1905 World Series were later inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame . These were from the New York Giants John McGraw , Roger Bresharan, Christy Mathewson and Joe McGinnity, from the Philadelphia Connie Mack , Chief Bender , Eddie Plank and Rube Waddell and the umpire Hank O'Day.
