The 1908 World Series was the fifth edition of the World Series , the finals of Major League Baseball (MLB). They were played from October 8 to October 16, 1908 at the end of the 1908 MLB season between the American League winners , the Detroit Tigers and the National League winners , the Chicago Cubs . The teams faced each other for the second time in a row after the 1907 World Series .
As in the previous year, the winning franchise was that of the Chicago Cubs with 4-1 wins. Although the Cubs were seven more times in the final of the MLB until the World Series 1945 , the Chicago Cubs could not win the World Series again until 2016 .
