The 1985 World Series was the 82nd edition of the Major League Baseball finals . The champions of the American League , the Kansas City Royals , and the champion of the National League , the St. Louis Cardinals , faced each other. The Best-Of-Seven series started on October 19 and ended on October 27, 1985 and went over the full number of games.
The Royals won the series with 4: 3 games, winning the first and, until 2014, only World Series title in the history of the franchise . At the beginning of the series, however, the Royals lost both games in their home ballpark. After a win in Game 3, the second away game in St. Louis was lost. Thanks to three wins in a row, the Royals were surprisingly still able to win the series after losing 3-1.
The series is often referred to as the "I-70 Showdown Series" due to the fact that both teams are based in Missouri and linked by Interstate 70 .
As MVP of the series Kansas was pitcher Bret Saberhagen excellent.
