The 1972 World Series was the 69th edition of the finals of Major League Baseball . It faced the champions of the American League , the Oakland Athletics , and the champion of the National League , the Cincinnati Reds . The Best-Of-Seven series started on October 14th and ended on October 22nd, 1972. The Oakland Athletics won by a 4: 3 victory and were able to achieve their sixth championship.

As MVP of the series Oaklands was catcher Gene Tenace excellent.
