The 2001 World Series was the 97th edition of the Major League Baseball finals . The series started due to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 only on October 27, 2001 and ended on November 4, 2001, which is why it is also referred to as the "November Series" .

The American League champion , the New York Yankees , and the National League champion , the Arizona Diamondbacks , faced each other. The Arizona Diamondbacks won the "Best of Seven" series with a 4-3 win. The Diamondbacks won Games 1, 2, 6 and 7, the Yankees won Games 3, 4 and 5.

The two Diamondbacks pitchers Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling were chosen to be the MVP of the World Series . This was the second time since 1981 that this award went to several players.
