The 1983 World Series was the 80th edition of the finals of Major League Baseball . The title holder of the American League , the Baltimore Orioles , won their third and so far last World Series title with 4-1 victories . The losing team in the National League were the Philadelphia Phillies . The series is often referred to as " The I-95 Series " due to the fact that both cities are connected by Interstate 95 .
As MVP of the series of Baltimore was catcher Rick Dempsey excellent.
The pre-game anthem " The Star-Spangled Banner " was performed by country and folk singer John Denver .
Starting position
The Philadelphia Phillies won their division six games ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates and were then able to prevail in the NLCS with 3-1 wins against the LA Dodgers . The Phillies team had a high average age of 32 years in the season, which was due, among other things, to aging players such as Pete Rose (42 years), Tony Pérez (41 years) and Joe Morgan (39 years).
The Baltimore Orioles were also able to win their division by six wins. Runner-up team were the Detroit Tigers . In the ALCS, the Orioles then beat the Chicago White Sox after 0: 1 deficit with 3: 1 wins.
