The 1909 World Series was the sixth edition of the World Series , the finals of Major League Baseball (MLB).
They were played at the end of the 1909 MLB season from October 8 to October 16, 1909 between the American League winners , the Detroit Tigers and the National League winners , the Pittsburgh Pirates .
The winning team was the Pittsburgh Pirates with 4: 3 victories, which celebrated their first World Series title in franchise history. The Detroit Tigers under manager Hughie Jennings, however, lost their third World Series in a row after 1907 and 1908 .
