In the World Series 2010 from October 27 to November 1, 2010 the winner of the North American (USA and Canada) Major League Baseball was determined for the 106th time . The best-of-seven series is traditionally played between the winner of the American League and the champion of the National League . The finalists were the Texas Rangers from the American League and the San Francisco Giants from the National League. After five games, the Giants won 4-1. For MVP of the World Series was Edgar Rentería selected.
The finalists
For the Texas Rangers it was the first participation in a World Series. The team is originally from Washington and moved to Texas in 1972. The only successes to date were over a decade ago, with three wins in the West Division of the American League. After that, however, they always failed in the first round of the postseason to the New York Yankees . For this, however, they were able to return the favor in 2010 .
The San Francisco Giants had already competed 17 times in a World Series, but their last of a total of five wins was far behind (1954, previously champion in 1905, 1921, 1922 and 1933). In their three World Series participations since then (1962, 1989 , 2002 ) they had to admit defeat.

The American League and National League winners were determined between October 6 and October 24, 2010. To this end, the three division winners and the best runner-up (so-called wild card) met each other in two division series matches in the best-of-five mode ( ALDS or NLDS = American or National League Division Series). Then the winners of the Division Series matches played the best-of-seven from the respective league champion ( ALCS or NLCS = American or National League Championship Series ). However, internal divisional encounters are excluded.
