Gerald Dempsey "Buster" Posey (born March 27, 1987 in Leesburg , Georgia ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB). He plays as a catcher and first baseman for the San Francisco Giants .

Career

After Posey had played on the Florida State University baseball team , the Florida State Seminoles, he was selected by the Giants in the 2008 MLB Draft in the first round as the fifth player ever. In August 2008, he signed a contract with the Giants and received a bonus of 6.2 million US dollars - the highest bonus ever paid in the history of the MLB draft. In the 2009 season he played in the Giants' farm system in the minor leagues . After an injury to Bengie Molina , he was appointed to the Giants team on September 2, 2009 and made his MLB debut on September 11.

The 2010 season began Posey with the Triple-A Team Fresno Grizzlies. On May 29, he was appointed to the Giants team and initially played as first baseman. For his achievements in July 2010 he was named Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month of the National League. After the Giants had transferred Molina to the Texas Rangers , he took over the task of starting catcher in early August. With the Giants he moved into the 2010 World Series and won it against the Texas Rangers. He was named Rookie of the Year in the National League for his performance throughout the season .
