Paul Edward "Goldy" Goldschmidt (born September 10, 1987 in Wilmington , Delaware ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB). He plays as first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals .

Career

Arizona Diamondbacks

Goldschmidt was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 49th round of the 2006 MLB Draft . However, he did not sign a contract. Instead Goldschmidt moved to Texas State University to play baseball college for the Texas State Bobcats . He made his MLB debut in 2011 with the Arizona Diamondbacks .

St. Louis Cardinals

On December 5, 2018, the Arizona Diamondbacks traded Goldschmidt to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Luke Weaver , Carson Kelly , Andy Young and a round-b-pick in the 2019 MLB Draft .

His contract with the Cardinals was extended on March 23, 2019 for a period of five years up to and including the 2024 MLB season .
