Kristopher Lee "Kris" Bryant (born January 4, 1992 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Chicago Cubs on the position of third baseman .
The Chicago Cubs selected Bryant as their second draft during the 2013 MLB Draft. Although selected as a third baseman, he also plays as an outfielder with the Chicago Cubs .
On April 17, 2015, Bryant was named by the Chicago Cubs of minor league baseball to the active major league baseball roster of the Cubs. In his MLB debut game against the San Diego Padres , he played 0-4 with 3 strikeouts (4 attempts and no hit), but at the same time showed good defensive work during the game. The Cubs lost the game against the Padres 5-4.
On June 27, 2016, Bryant became the first MLB player in the history of the league to have a hit statistic of 5-5 (5 hits with 5 at-bats in one game) with three home runs and two doubles.
Amateur career
High school
Bryant attended Bonanza High School in Las Vegas , Nevada , where he played baseball for the school team, holding a batting average of .418, a slugging percentage of .958 (SLG), and 103 hits and 47 home runs over the 4 years .
He was also named one of USA Today's Top Young High School Players during that time. The Toronto Blue Jays selected Bryant in the 18th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft, but he declined to sign and chose to play for the college team baseball at the University of San Diego .

While playing for the University of San Diego college team, he had a batting average of .365, an OBP of .482, and a slugging percentage of .599, nine home runs, and was honored again for his talent in 2011 .
Personal
Bryant has had a long and close friendship with the MLB players Bryce Harper and Joey Gallo. All three grew up in Las Vegas and started playing baseball together at the age of nine.
In May 2015, Bryant and Harper met for the first time in the American professional league when the Chicago Cubs played against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field .
His father, Mike Bryant, played in the minor leagues for the Boston Red Sox . He also owned his own business, but gave it up to get the opportunity to train his son.
