Tom McDonald Park

The Tom McDonald Park is a park in Palm Cove in the region Far North Queensland of the Australian state of Queensland . It is bounded to the west by Trivia Street and to the east by Oliva Street , to the north and south the park is bordered by built-up lots.

Surname

The park's name goes back to Tom McDonald , an Australian aviation pioneer who ran a jewelery shop in Cairns. He landed in 1929 with a Gypsy Moth in the area of what is now Cairs Airport , which was then a salt pan . He founded an airline company that offered flights to Cooktown and Brisbane . McDonald ran emergency patient transportation and also flew to hard-to-reach places like mine camps and cattle stations. He offered flights to beaches and later reached Thursday Island and Burketown . There is a board dedicated to him at Cairns Airport, on which his services for Far North Queensland are documented.

Condition and access

In the east of the park, the official entrance is via steps and a winding slope. In the west, the park area can be easily entered between the numerous gaps in the knee-high, wooden boundaries. On the built-up sides of the park, the terrain is slightly elevated and overgrown with trees. The park area slopes slightly towards the east coast of Palm Cove.

A little north of the park center is a set picnic table. There are three children's playgrounds in the park.
