In another representation, Archdeacon Campbell is said to have been the first European to settle in the area. He owned 200 acre land, which he before World War Albert Veivers (or Vievers) for 200 pounds sold. By 1900, the Palm Cove area was a military training ground. Between the 1920s and 1950s, the Vievers family built buildings near the beach. Annual sporting events and rodeo days were later held. Since the place names Palm Beach already existed in Queensland and New South Wales , the place was renamed Palm Cove in 1980. The first holiday homes were built in 1958, followed by a caravan park and a jetty. When Cairns Airport was built, more holiday homes and resorts were built.
