The Texas State University (also Texas State called) is a state university in San Marcos in the US state of Texas . With 27,503 students, it is the largest campus in the Texas State University System and the sixth largest college in Texas. The university is particularly known for its research and teaching in the fields of geography and music education.

history

The university was founded in 1899 with 303 students as the Southwest Texas State Normal School . After several name changes, it was given its current name in 2003.
