In a Dark Place (alternatively: Dark Places ) is a Luxembourg- produced horror film by Donato Rotunno from 2006 . He is an adaptation of the novel The Turn of the Screw (dt. The Turn of the Screw ) by Henry James .
action
The teacher Anna Veigh loses her job at a school. Instead, she is found a job as a nanny at Villa Bly House . There she is responsible for bringing up two children - Flora and Miles - on behalf of the uncle. The children's parents are dead. Anna's predecessor, Miss Jessel, was placed as a nanny by the same school and also died. The children found her drowned in the garden pond. Anna suspects that Flora and Miles are traumatized.
The estate manager, Miss Grose, first keeps her distance from Anna. Their attitude is slow to change.
Anna learns that Miles has been expelled from schools several times. The headmaster refuses to give any further information about the reasons. She experiences hallucinations from which she suffers increasingly. She learns from Miss Grose that the people seen in the hallucinations were once domestic servants but are already dead.
Anna believes Miles was expelled from school because of previous sexual abuse, and she blames one of the former domestic servants, Peter Quint. She tries to get the children to talk with methods that are not always as harmless as art therapy . Not only because of this, but also because of her growing hallucinations, an ever greater distance builds up between her and the children, because they are increasingly afraid of her.
On Miss Grose, however, this is rather attractive, because after the admission of her love for the drowned governess Valerie Jessel, she sleeps with Veigh. However, this remains the last friendly contact with her, because Anna's rigorous methods to protect the children from their own hallucinations, the lovers split again very quickly.
When she has pushed the asthmatic flora so far that she and Miss Grose have to be driven to the hospital, Miles flees from her and locks her out of the house. However, she gets back inside and the boy flees from her to the lake in which the governess drowned. He backs away from her, falls in and drowns.
