Powers Boothe
Powers Allen Boothe (born June 1, 1948 in Snyder , Texas - † May 14, 2017 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .
Life and accomplishments
Powers Boothe made his debut in 1969 with a minor supporting role in Two Bandits . He became known in 1980 thanks to the lead role in the television movie The Guyana Tragedy (Guyana Tragedy: The Story Of Jim Jones) , which portrayed an authentic tragedy of the members of the sect around Jim Jones . He got an Emmy for this film . He picked up this award personally, even though the Screen Actors Guild had called for a boycott of the event.
From 1983 to 1986 Boothe appeared in numerous short films produced for HBO . He played in the films The Red Flood , Erased , Nixon , Demonic , Men of Honor , Sin City , U-Turn - No Way Back and The Last Americans , among others .
Boothe was seen as saloon operator Cy Tolliver in the award-winning HBO series Deadwood and as US Vice President Noah Daniels in the hit series 24 . Most recently, he starred in eleven episodes of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD in 2015 and 2016 . His work includes more than 69 film and television productions.
Boothe had been married to Pam Cole since 1968 and had two children, including daughter Parisse Boothe , who was born in 1983 and works as an actress. In 2008 he supported John McCain's presidential campaign with a commercial.
Powers Boothe died in his sleep on May 14, 2017 at the age of 68.
Awards
Powers Boothe received the 1980 Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Jim Jones in The Guyana Massacre . In 2006 he received the Golden Boot Award. He has also been nominated several times, including 2012 for the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor in the television series Nashville , twice for the Screen Actors Guild Award (1996 for Nixon and 2007 for Deadwood ), twice for the CableACE Award and twice for the Gold Derby Award.
